Coronary angioplasty (PTCA)

It is a procedure involving the dilation of the coronary artery narrowed by atherosclerosis and the restoration of proper blood flow. This is achieved by inserting a small balloon through the catheter into the narrowed section of the vessel. The balloon filled with liquid under high pressure expands and widens the narrowed area. In order to maintain the obtained effect, a so-called stent is implanted into previously narrowed section.
