How the eye examination is carried out

We can divide an eye examination into several stages.

1. Interview

Each examination begins with a detailed interview with a patient about the reason for the visit, the sources of problems and finding out the patient's needs. There are also questions about correction history, medication taken or lifestyle. It all affects our vision. It is often the poor eye or home habits that cause discomfort or decreased vision, and this is not reflected in vision impairment. In such situations, an optometrist will recommend appropriate prophylaxis and possible eye exercises.

2. Examining the visual system parameters

The patient interview is followed by refraction testing (both computerised measurement of the impairment and more comprehensive examination with the patient's direct participation and based on their experience), examination of binocular vision and selection of a spectacle correction.

In the case of an examination with contact lens fitting, an additional check of the health of the anterior segment of the eyes (i.e., the eye, eyelids, conjunctiva, etc.) is performed, as well as qualification of whether there are any contraindications to wearing the contact lenses. You will also learn how to insert and remove your lenses and how to care for them.

3. Veryfying the results

Once we have determined the parameters of lenses that a patient should wear, we verify the correction in a trial frame. This allows to assess the comfort and quality of vision in conditions more akin to wearing glasses. This is also when we match the correction to the visual requirements that patients face on a daily basis.

4. Choosing a right glasses design

Based on the information obtained from the patient and the examination results, we can recommend the best glasses or contact lens solution. There are hundreds of various types of spectacles and contact lens designs. Therefore, we’re here to guide you through the overwhelming amount of information, and together we choose the most suitable design that suits the patient’s lifestyle and visual work habits.
