Why get a flu vaccination?
Flu season is approaching, and respiratory infections are expected to appear earlier than usual. Many of these cases involve co-infections, leading to more severe symptoms and longer recovery times.
However, keep in mind that it is possible to effectively protect ourselves from illnesses, severe infections and their complications. Vaccination remains the most effective method to prevent infectious diseases.
Benefits of the flu vaccine:
- Reduces the risk of illness, complications, and hospitalisation caused by the flu;
- May lessen the severity of symptoms in vaccinated individuals who do become ill;
- It is an important preventive measure, especially for patients with certain chronic conditions, particularly heart or lung diseases (e.g. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) or diabetes, for whom the flu poses a serious threat to health and life;
- Protects pregnant women from serious complications, and newborns are also protected against the flu for several months after birth, when they are too young to be vaccinated;
- Helps protect vulnerable individuals around you, including infants, young children, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions.

Additional recommended vaccinations
We encourage all Medicover patients to get ready for the upcoming infection season by considering additional vaccinations – not just the flu shot.
During your appointment, you or your child may also receive vaccinations for pertussis, pneumococcal disease, shingles, human papillomavirus (HPV), hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, tetanus, rabies, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
*Please inform the nurse or doctor at your appointment if you wish to receive any of these vaccines.
Best regards,
The Medicover Team
