The colposcopy examination enables assessment of the condition of the cervix. The procedure involves examining the surface of the cervix, the lower part of its canal, the vagina and the vulva using a device called a colposcope under proper lighting and with appropriate magnification.

The procedure allows for the identification of diseases that are not detectable during a conventional gynaecological examination, such as preneoplastic and early cancerous lesions as well as cervical cancer.

On the basis of the colposcopy examination, a doctor decides whether it is necessary to perform further diagnostics and, if necessary, take biopsies for histopathological analysis of lesions or a patient should be immediately qualified for relevant conservative or surgical treatment.

The colposcopy examination is painless and non-invasive.
