Endoscopic examinations are performed in order to diagnose and assess the inside of the gastrointestinal tract. An endoscope can also be used to perform some surgeries, such as: removal of a single polyp, cholecystectomy, cholelithotomy.

Visit the Medicover Hospital where we offer examinations from the scope of diagnostics and change treatment in the large intestine and the stomach. We perform the following examinations:

  • anoscopy
  • gastroscopy
  • CT colonoscopy
  • rectoscopy
  • sigmoidoscopy

Our gastroenterology specialists, applying modern equipment with high-definition picture channel, have the possibility to detect even the smallest changes in each section of the large intestine and the stomach.

Using the high-end medical equipment provides the guarantee of a correct diagnosis and, in the case of any abnormalities, the possibility of immediate treatment (inter alia polypectomy - polyp removal, or argon plasma coagulation).

In the Endoscopic Laboratory we perform diagnostic examinations with a simultaneous procedure. In the case of detecting changes which require operation treatment (such as large intestine neoplasm), the team of the Surgery Department of our Hospital may provide a comprehensive consultation, as well as plan and perform an operation which would be appropriate in that case.

All examinations are performed under general anaesthesia guaranteeing post-procedure care in a recovery room with a constant nurse supervision.

There is a possibility to perform colonoscopy and gastroscopy under general anaesthesia simultaneously.

In Medicover Hospital there is a possibility to conduct endoscopic examination with the use of the state-of-the-art diagnostic method - endoscopic capsule. The use of this method allows to examine the inside of the entire gastrointestinal tract in a non-invasive manner.

Capsule endoscopy is a procedure which uses a tiny wireless camera which is swallowed by a patient.  When the capsule is moving along the gastrointestinal tract, the camera placed inside it takes thousands of pictures forming a film which is later analysed by a doctor.

Capsule endoscopy helps doctors see the inside of the small intestine - places where the access in a traditional manner (gastrofiberoscopy, colonoscopy) is virtually impossible. It is, at the same time, safe, well-tolerated by patients and it can be an outpatient examination performed in adults and children above 9-10 years of age. During the examination (recording) the patient can continue their usual everyday activities  and in no way they can feel the presence of the camera in their body.

The examination with the use of an endoscopic capsule is particularly recommended in order to determine the reason for recurrent or chronic ailments, such as:

  • abdominal pain,
  • chronic diarrhoea,
  • latent bleedings from the gastrointestinal tract,
  • iron insufficiency anaemia,
  • when neither gastroscopy nor colonoscopy allowed to make a diagnosis

An endoscopic capsule is applied to diagnose a wide range of small intestine diseases, including:

  • Crohn’s disease - it allows to assess what part of the small intestine is affected by the disease and helps monitor the treatment effects,
  • celiac disease and other absorption disturbances,
  • benign and malignant tumours of the small intestine,
  • vascular abnormalities (vascular malformations, angiodysplasia, innate changes and radiotherapy results),
  • small intestine damage connected with drug application (including NSAIDs, ASA).
  • gastrointestinal tract motor activity, such as the time of passage through the stomach or the small intestine.
